Rang Deirdre Crocus Fundraiser

Students from Rang Deirdre present a cheque for €225 to representatives from Crocus. The girls are photographed with their Home Ec Teacher Miss Flanagan. The girls organised a Christmas themed Coffee Morning in aid of Crocus as part of a leaving Certificate Applied Key Assignment. Well done girls!!! :)

Poetry Aloud

St. Louis First Year student Rhia Nar has qualified for the All Ireland Final of Poetry Ireland. This is a phenomenal achievement for a First Year student. Rhia is a past student of St Dympna’s National School in Tydavnet. She is also a member of the Rossmore School of Speech and Drama. Rhia was the only student from Co. Monaghan to qualify for the All Ireland Final. The final takes place on Friday 1st December in the national Library of Ireland , Kildare street in Dublin. The Poetry Aloud competition, organised by the National Library of Ireland and Poetry Ireland, is an annual poetry speaking contest for post-primary school students across the island of Ireland. ISTA National Finalists

Congratulations to Simone Clerkin, Alison Mc Donnell and Rhainna Mc Entee who were successful in the Regional Rounds of the ISTA Senior Science Quiz that took place on Thursday 16th November during Science Week in the Loreto College, County Cavan. The girls are now invited to the Tercentenary Hall in Trinity Biomedical Science Institute for the National Final which is sponsored by BioPharmaChemical Ireland. Shoe Box Appeal

This year saw the students in St Louis secondary School make a huge effort to prepare shoe boxes for the annual Christmas appeal. The annual Team Hope Christmas shoe Box Appeal encourages people to prepare a box to ensure that all children receive a gift on Christmas Day. This gift will be the only present these children will receive this year. Last year a record 250,000 shoeboxes were delivered to children and this year it is expected that this number will be surpassed. Emma Returns to South Africa with the Niall Mellon Trust

Emma Mc Aree, a fifth year student in St. Louis Secondary School returned to South Africa to volunteer with the Niall Mellon Trust. This was Emma’s second time to make this journey and she had to fundraise to enable her to go. Well done Emma. This is an account of her experience. “On Saturday 11th November I joined with 290 volunteers as we embarked on a week of hard work, friendship and laughter , on a mission to build 3 schools in Khayelitsha township in the heart of Capetown, South Africa. With our 17 hour flight over us we headed to the hotel and immediately on to the site. Over the next 6 days I did everything from painting, to pointing, floating concrete and shoveling cement.
