Ulster Quarter Finals for St Louis U16 Footballers
On Tuesday 9th January, the St. Louis Monaghan u16 team had an impressive victory over St. Louis Grammar School Kilkeel in the final round of the Ulster Colleges championship. On a scoreline of (8.14-4.4) and in bitter cold conditions, the Monaghan side displayed their class and skill to overcome a very talented Newry squad.
Playing with the wind in the first half the pressure was on the Monaghan girls to clock up a high score line to act as a cushion into the second half. St. Louis Kilkeel defended well and took their opportunities when the chance opened up in front of the Monaghan goal. The first half ended on a close scoreline of 4.6-2.1
Battling a gale force wind the Louis Monaghan team had to battle to remain in control of the game and battle they certainly did. The girls linked well from defence to the forwards and powerfully drove through the Kilkeel team in the first 15 minutes of the half to solidify this win. They have now topped their group and go straight through to the Ulster Quarter finals awaiting the winner of the other side.
They are looking forward to their next encounter and this talented squad have done their schools and clubs very proud.
