St. Louis reaches All Ireland Basketball Qualifiers.

On Friday 19th January the U19 basketball team from St. Louis Secondary School, Monaghan travelled to Bagnelstown in Carlow in preparation for their All Ireland A qualifiers which were taking place on the Saturday. Captain Amy Mulligan and her team mates Natasha Hughes, Rachel Gallagher, Alex Mulligan, Hannah O’Reilly, Megan Treanor, Ruth Douglas and Bronagh McKenna where in high spirits and fancied their chances. In their first match the girls defeated Abbeyfeale of Limerick comfortably. Due to other results, out of their control, the Louis girls needed to win their next match against the host team Bagnelstown if they were to continue their chance of moving to the next stage. St. Louis and the home side where very evenly matched in what can only be described as dogged, hard fought and tight affair. Unfortunately ball carrier Natasha Hughes had to leave the court in the third period due to a knee injury and the pressure started to be felt by the Monaghan side. The game finished with a one point win for Bagnelstown and heart break for St. Louis Monaghan. There were some outstanding individual performances on the day and an overall great team effort by the Louis girls in which they should be very proud of. The girls are indebted to their coaches Ms. Rooney, Ms. Fleming and in the past by Delma Mulligan.
