TY Louis students are loving Future Leaders Programme.
Transition year students in St. Louis Secondary School are currently taking part in a year long Future Leaders programme that has been rolled out by the GAA in schools right across the country.
In this exciting joint initiative between the GAA and the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST), students are presented with a series of modules designed to encourage valuable skills such as maturity, initiative, responsibility and leadership in pupils. All TY students have the opportunity to experience all or some of the modules on offer such as Sports Journalism, Coaching, Sports Performance analysis and Nutrition. Each module is individually certifiable and a core group of ‘Future Leaders’ have the chance to complete up to 5 modules as well as organising a GAA super Games blitz to achieve their Future Leaders Award.
This refreshing and forward thinking programme equips students with valuable skills they can utilise within their own communities and clubs such as coaching the underage or organising events. It also provides students with the opportunity to win amazing prizes on completion of their tasks within their modules.
Students have begun the first module of the programme (Coaching) with their teacher Miss O’ Leary, and are already showing great leadership and confidence as young coaches.
