St Louis Transition Year Graduation Ceremony
The past few months have shown us that schools are more than places where information is passed on. Schools are about relationships , connections and experiences. This was never more apparent than at the St Louis virtual graduation held on Friday the 22nd of May. Over a hundred students logged on to Google Meet for a live online celebration of their achievements during the 2019-2020 academic year. Aoibhinn Clerkin was our host and welcomed everyone and introduced our speakers and guests. An expertly illustrated slideshow followed that recounted the many talks, trips, competitions, workshops and modules that were a feature of the very broad and holistic TY curriculum offered by the school. For many students participating in the musical was a highlight, and clips from “The Adam’s Family” provided everyone with an opportunity to sing along at home. Our guest of honour was Monaghan town native Ms Cathy Mc Kenna a former Great Irish Bake Off winner. Cathy spoke eloquently about how her career path and plans changed over the years. She encouraged the students to be open minded , flexible and adaptable regarding the future. Videos from our Head-girl Niamh Flynn and famous TIk Toker Chris Is Anim Dom were also well received, A number of students spoke honestly and sincerely about the aspects of Transition Year that resonated with them and the new life skills they have acquired. Finally the moment came for our Principal Mrs Conlon to announce the TY Student of the Year award. This year the award was shared by three girls, Rachel Callery, Gemma Graham and Aoibhinn Clerkin, All agree they are deserving winners for their unstinting efforts to make Transition Year a successful and happy experience for their classmates. Mrs Conlon wished everyone an enjoyable summer, encouraging the students to put their creativity and energy to good use over the holidays. Special thanks go to Mr Fitzgerald for organising a very enjoyable occasion that was enjoyed by both students and staff alike.
